From a Photograph

All portraits are created from photographs that you provide. The photo becomes the reference for everything; pose, lighting, likeness and mood; so it’s important that the image is clear, well-lit and high resolution.

 

Photos taken with a digital camera or phone are ideal. Images downloaded from social media or taken in poor lighting usually don’t offer enough detail for a high-quality result.

If you’re not sure whether your photo will work, feel free to send it to me. I’ll be happy to let you know and can offer guidance or suggestions.

💡 Tip: A good portrait photo has natural light, soft shadows and a clear view of the face. The more detail, the better!

 

Pricing

Each piece is created with care using acrylic paint on gallery wrapped canvas. Pricing depends on canvas size and number of subjects. Prices below include one person with a simple background. Additional figures or more detailed backgrounds are available for an extra fee.

The Process

1. Get in Touch

   • Reach out through my contact form and let me know what you have in mind; who the portrait is of, what size you’re considering, and any meaningful details you’d like me to know.

2. Photo Review & Agreement

   • We’ll go over your reference image(s) together. Once we settle on the composition and canvas size, I’ll send you a simple agreement outlining the details.

3. Deposit & Painting Begins

   • A 40% deposit confirms your commission and secures your spot in my schedule. Once I begin painting, I’ll stay in touch with updates along the way. If you’re working toward a specific date, please let me know. Timelines vary depending on size and my studio schedule but I’ll give you an estimated completion date when we start. A small portrait may take 3-5 weeks; larger or more detailed pieces may take 6-10 weeks

4. Review & Final Touches

   • When your portrait is nearly complete, I’ll send a photo for review. I offer up two small adjustments if needed, to make sure you’re truly happy with the result.

5. Final Payment & Delivery

   • When the painting is complete, I’ll send a final photo. Once you’ve approved the finished painting, the remaining balance (plus shipping) is due. Then I’ll package your portrait with care and get it to you! If you live locally, I’m happy to deliver it to you!

 

A Note on Copyright

I retain the copyright on all artwork I create, including commissions. This means I may use images of the work on my website or social media unless otherwise agreed. You’re welcome to share photos of your commissioned piece (and I love when you do!), but please don’t reproduce it for commercial use without permission.
